Investigation of the effects of two different cooling treatments on the physico-mechanical and microstructural properties of granite after high temperatures

Granite deposits have a strategic importance due to the energy developments in Türkiye and its stability plays an important role environmental safety. Therefore, it is of major for engineering practice investigate thermal damage mechanisms case high temperature exposure effects. This study discusses results tests performed physico-mechanical microstructural properties granite after temperatures two different cooling treatments. The samples, which were previously heated from 24 1000 °C then cooled oven or water, tested terms porosity, hardness, P–S wave velocity, uniaxial compressive strength, point load strength index (Is50) microstructure. Yaylak has been examined suggested research. show that water-cooled samples exhibited higher decreases compared oven-cooled samples. In addition, porosity values increased With scanning electron microscope polarizing analysis, microcrack density width more with temperature, while they less granites. disintegration considerably at measurements could not be taken this temperature. At same water-cooling treatment caused microcracks micropores, led critical granite. These conclusions verify methods several effects on granite, ensure foundation prediction rock mass behaviors situations (e.g., geothermal exploration nuclear waste disposal).
